Matthew 10:34-39
34) "Don‘t think that I came to send peace on the earth. I didn‘t come to send peace, but a sword.
35) For I came to set a man at odds against his father, and the daughter against her mother, and the daughter in law against her mother in law.
36) A man‘s foes will be those of his own household.
37) He who loves father or mother more than me is not worthy of me; and he who loves son or daughter more than me isn‘t worthy of me.
38) He who doesn‘t take his cross and follow after me, isn‘t worthy of me.
39) He who finds his life will lose it; and he who loses his life for my sake will find it.
Matthew 16:21-27
21) From that time, Jesus began to show to his disciples that he must go to Jerusalem and suffer many things from the elders, chief priests, and scribes, and be killed, and the third day be raised up.
22) Peter took him aside, and began to rebuke him, saying, "Far be it from you, Lord! This will never be done to you."
23) But he turned, and said to Peter, "Get behind me, Satan! You are a stumbling-block to me, for you are not setting your mind on the things of God, but the things of men."
24) Then Jesus said to his disciples, "If any man desires to come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me.
25) For whoever desires to save his life will lose it, and whoever will lose his life for my sake will find it.
26) For what will it profit a man, if he will gain the whole world, and forfeit his life? Or what will a man give in exchange for his life?
27) For the Son of Man will come in the glory of his Father with his angels, and then will he render to every man according to his deeds.
Luke 9:57-62
57) As they went on the way, a certain man said to him, "I want to follow you wherever you go, Lord."
58) Jesus said to him, "The foxes have holes, and the birds of the sky have nests, but the Son of Man has no place to lay his head."
59) He said to another, "Follow me." But he said, "Lord, allow me first to go and bury my father."
60) But Jesus said to him, "Leave the dead to bury their own dead, but you go and announce the kingdom of God."
61) Another also said, "I want to follow you, Lord, but first allow me to bid farewell to those who are at my house."
62) But Jesus said to him, "No one, having put his hand to the plow, and looking back, is fit for the kingdom of God."
