Central Truth: God desires us to avoid sin and its consequences.
Key Verse: Proverbs 28:13
He who conceals his sins does not prosper, but whoever confesses and renounces them finds mercy. (NIV)
Commentary & Application:
1. David's Terrible Sins (2 Samuel 11:1-5,14-17,26,27)
Israel ahd become a strong natino with a powerful army. When war developed, David could send out the armies of Israel under the command of Joab while he stayed in Jerusalem (2 Samuel 11:1). Temptation often sneaks up on people when they feel the most secure.
It happened one evening that David was walking on the roof of his house when he saw a beautiful woman bathing herself (verse 2). David sent a servant to find out who she was (verse 3). Even after learning she was Bath-sheba [bath SHEE buh], the wife of Uriah [yoo RIGH uh], who was one of his bodyguard who was with the army at war, David brought her to the palace and slept with her (verse 4).
This one-night affair turned into a problem for David. Bath-sheba became pregnant and sent word of it to David (verse 5).
David's response in this situation was to try to cover it up. He sent a message for Joab to send Uriah home with a report on the war. After receiving the report, David tried for two night to get Uriah to go home and spend time with his wife. Uriah felt it would be unfair for him to go home to his wife while the rest of the army was engaged in battle. So David sent Uriah back to Joab with sealed orders that would result in his death. David married Bath-sheba soon after Uriah's death (verses 6-27).
The best protection against sin is to avoid anything that even looks like sin (see Proverbs 4:14, 15; 1 Thessalonians 5:22). If you do sin, confess it immediately. Ask God's help in removing it from your life. This way sin will not be able to take root and work its destruction in your life.
What Steps can you take to guard your heart from sin?
2. God Calls David to Account (2 Samuel 12:1-9)
After David's sin, God sent the prophet Nathan to him. Nathan related to David a story about a rich man who was showing hospitality to a traveler (2 Samuel 12:1-4). Instead of killing one of his many lambs, the rich man used his power to take the lamb that belonged to a poor man to feed the traveler. This was the poor man's only lamb, and he loved it as if it were his child.
David was nagry at the rich man's actions and declared harsh judgement against him (verses 5,6). Nathan then confronted David with his sin using the words, "Thou art the man" (verse 7, KJV). Nathan made David see how he had used his power and position to take Bath-sheda into his bed and have Uriah killed (verses 7-9).
God loves us so much that He will do whatever is necessary to make us aware of our sin. The question is, What will we do when He confronts us? God can bring forgiveness only when we choose to accept responsibility for our sin.
Why is it important to take responsibility for your wrong actions?
3. David's Repentance and Punishment (2 Samuel 12:10-23)
Nathan declared God's judgment on David's actions (2 Samuel 12:10-12). God would "bring calamity" on David as a result of his sinful actions (verse 11, NIV). He would face betrayal from those within his own household.
David's confession was more than a mere acknowledgement of guilt, but a cry of repentance. Nathan assured David that the Lord forgave him of his sins. Though what David had done were sins worthy of death, he would not die (verse 13). However, because his sin had brought disgrace to God, the child Bath-sheba bore him would die (verse 14).
David began to fast and pray for the life of the child, but the child died. The servants were afraid to tell David. But when David realized the child was dead, he washed himself and went to worship the Lord. He then returned to his palace and asked for food (verses 15-20).
The servants were confused and asked how David could so suddently get on with his life. David's answer gives us insight into his faith. He told them that as long as the child was alive, he had hoped for God's mercy to save his life. After the child died, David had confidence that the child was in God's presence and that one day David would join him there (verses 21-23).
God always deals with us out of love. His love for us is so great that it required the death of His Son. His desire is that we avoid sin and its consequences. By His grace we can live in holiness.
How has God shown you His graciousness when you should have received His just judgment?
Discpleship in Action
It is human nature to try to hide our sins or blame others for our actions. The result is that we avoid dealing with the sin in our lives. So it remains there, working to bring us under its power. The only way to conquer sin is to confess it before God, ask for His forgiveness, and seek His help in conquering it.
Take time this week and ask God to reveal any sin in your life. Learn to listen for His voice speaking to you as you read His Word and as you worship with other Christians. Memorize this study's key verse and use it to help you respond with confession and repentance when the Spirit reveals sin to you. "He that covereth his sins shall not prosper: but whoso confesseth and forsaketh them shall have mercry" (Proverbs 28:13, KJV).
What is one thing you can do this week in response to this lesson?
2 Samuel 11:1 - 12:23
(11:1) 1 In the spring, at the time when kings go off to war, David sent Joab out with the king's men and the whole Israelite army. They destroyed the Ammonites and besieged Rabbah. But David remained in Jerusalem.
(11:2) 2 One evening David got up from his bed and walked around on the roof of the palace. From the roof he saw a woman bathing. The woman was very beautiful,
(11:3) 3 and David sent someone to find out about her. The man said, "Isn't this Bathsheba, the daughter of Eliam and the wife of Uriah the Hittite?"
(11:4) 4 Then David sent messengers to get her. She came to him, and he slept with her. (She had purified herself from her uncleanness.) Then she went back home.
(11:5) 5 The woman conceived and sent word to David, saying, "I am pregnant."
(11:6) 6 So David sent this word to Joab: "Send me Uriah the Hittite." And Joab sent him to David.
(11:7) 7 When Uriah came to him, David asked him how Joab was, how the soldiers were and how the war was going.
(11:8) 8 Then David said to Uriah, "Go down to your house and wash your feet." So Uriah left the palace, and a gift from the king was sent after him.
(11:9) 9 But Uriah slept at the entrance to the palace with all his master's servants and did not go down to his house.
(11:10) 10 When David was told, "Uriah did not go home," he asked him, "Haven't you just come from a distance? Why didn't you go home?"
(11:11) 11 Uriah said to David, "The ark and Israel and Judah are staying in tents, and my master Joab and my lord's men are camped in the open fields. How could I go to my house to eat and drink and lie with my wife? As surely asyou live, I will not do such a thing!"
(11:12) 12 Then David said to him, "Stay here one more day, and tomorrow I will send you back." So Uriah remained in Jerusalem that day and the next.
(11:13) 13 At David's invitation, he ate and drank with him, and David made him drunk. But in the evening Uriah went out to sleep on his mat among his master's servants; he did not go home.
(11:14) 14 In the morning David wrote a letter to Joab and sent it with Uriah.
(11:15) 15 In it he wrote, "Put Uriah in the front line where the fighting is fiercest. Then withdraw from him so he will be struck down and die."
(11:16) 16 So while Joab had the city under siege, he put Uriah at a place where he knew the strongest defenders were.
(11:17) 17 When the men of the city came out and fought against Joab, some of the men in David's army fell; moreover, Uriah the Hittite died.
(11:18) 18 Joab sent David a full account of the battle.
(11:19) 19 He instructed the messenger: "When you have finished giving the king this account of the battle,
(11:20) 20 the king's anger may flare up, and he may ask you, 'Why did you get so close to the city to fight? Didn't you know they would shoot arrows from the wall?
(11:21) 21 Who killed Abimelech son of Jerub-Besheth? Didn't a woman throw an upper millstone on him from the wall, so that he died in Thebez? Why did you get so close to the wall?' If he asks you this, then say to him,'Also, your servant Uriah the Hittite is dead.' "
(11:22) 22 The messenger set out, and when he arrived he told David everything Joab had sent him to say.
(11:23) 23 The messenger said to David, "The men overpowered us and came out against us in the open, but we drove them back to the entrance to the city gate.
(11:24) 24 Then the archers shot arrows at your servants from the wall, and some of the king's men died. Moreover, your servant Uriah the Hittite is dead."
(11:25) 25 David told the messenger, "Say this to Joab: 'Don't let this upset you; the sword devours one as well as another. Press the attack against the city and destroy it.' Say this to encourage Joab."
(11:26) 26 When Uriah's wife heard that her husband was dead, she mourned for him.
(11:27) 27 After the time of mourning was over, David had her brought to his house, and she became his wife and bore him a son. But the thing David had done displeased the LORD.
(12:1) 1 The LORD sent Nathan to David. When he came to him, he said, "There were two men in a certain town, one rich and the other poor.
(12:2) 2 The rich man had a very large number of sheep and cattle,
(12:3) 3 but the poor man had nothing except one little ewe lamb he had bought. He raised it, and it grew up with him and his children. It shared his food, drank from his cup and even slept in his arms. It was like a daughter tohim.
(12:4) 4 Now a traveler came to the rich man, but the rich man refrained from taking one of his own sheep or cattle to prepare a meal for the traveler who had come to him. Instead, he took the ewe lamb that belonged to thepoor man and prepared it for the one who had come to him.
(12:5) 5 David burned with anger against the man and said to Nathan, "As surely as the LORD lives, the man who did this deserves to die!
(12:6) 6 He must pay for that lamb four times over, because he did such a thing and had no pity."
(12:7) 7 Then Nathan said to David, "You are the man! This is what the LORD, the God of Israel, says: 'I anointed you king over Israel, and I delivered you from the hand of Saul.
(12:8) 8 I gave your master's house to you, and your master's wives into your arms. I gave you the house of Israel and Judah. And if all this had been too little, I would have given you even more.
(12:9) 9 Why did you despise the word of the LORD by doing what is evil in his eyes? You struck down Uriah the Hittite with the sword and took his wife to be your own. You killed him with the sword of the Ammonites.
(12:10) 10 Now, therefore, the sword will never depart from your house, because you despised me and took the wife of Uriah the Hittite to be your own.'
(12:11) 11 This is what the LORD says: 'Out of your own household I am going to bring calamity upon you. Before your very eyes I will take your wives and give them to one who is close to you, and he will lie with your wives in broad daylight.
(12:12) 12 You did it in secret, but I will do this thing in broad daylight before all Israel.' "
(12:13) 13 Then David said to Nathan, "I have sinned against the LORD." Nathan replied, "The LORD has taken away your sin. You are not going to die.
(12:14) 14 But because by doing this you have made the enemies of the LORD show utter contempt, the son born to you will die."
(12:15) 15 After Nathan had gone home, the LORD struck the child that Uriah's wife had borne to David, and he became ill.
(12:16) 16 David pleaded with God for the child. He fasted and went into his house and spent the nights lying on the ground.
(12:17) 17 The elders of his household stood beside him to get him up from the ground, but he refused, and he would not eat any food with them.
(12:18) 18 On the seventh day the child died. David's servants were afraid to tell him that the child was dead, for they thought, "While the child was still living, we spoke to David but he would not listen to us. How can we tell him the childis dead? He may do something desperate."
(12:19) 19 David noticed that his servants were whispering among themselves and he realized the child was dead. "Is the child dead?" he asked. "Yes," they replied, "he is dead."
(12:20) 20 Then David got up from the ground. After he had washed, put on lotions and changed his clothes, he went into the house of the LORD and worshiped. Then he went to his own house, and at his request they served him food, and he ate.
(12:21) 21 His servants asked him, "Why are you acting this way? While the child was alive, you fasted and wept, but now that the child is dead, you get up and eat!"
(12:22) 22 He answered, "While the child was still alive, I fasted and wept. I thought, 'Who knows? The LORD may be gracious to me and let the child live.'
(12:23) 23 But now that he is dead, why should I fast? Can I bring him back again? I will go to him, but he will not return to me."

This is a machine transcript of the sermon. It won't be completely accurate of what's said in the sermon.
While this morning as we said were talking about David's sin, his sins in his repentance. The key verses Proverbs twenty eight thirteen either cover his sins shall not prosper, but whosoever confesses and for a second shelf, have mercy on an essential truth. God desires to avoid sin and its consequence. So whenever we think of sin with income breaking no breaking God 's commandments and breaking God 's laws and the one Scripture says that he who knows to do right and doesn't do it to him it is sin and said is that which separates and says a separation from God, and it comes between us. You know, whatever, whenever we have got God 's mercy and God 's grace and God 's strength got our all that is always coming towards us down. Does God change his mind. No, this got stopped that from coming no, we erect barriers and RCN is the erection of a barrier between us and God so ever. God doesn't change in his grace is emerging as long. All that is constantly coming towards us, yelling in the changes as our receptivity to sell soon as that which separates us from God. That barrier whenever said that Jesus Christ is the people. He is the mediator between God and man. He bridges the gap is a propagation for our sins, he is one who breaks down the wall of partition soldiers as they break down the wall. It separates us from God. He forgives us of our sins. So whenever we have a sound and and we have got the say is that separation becomes individually having up so Wednesday was Duenas and God. God is constantly sending all beyond Islam 's mercy is racist. This is there always comes towards us, but our sin is this barrier and so if we ask for forgiveness. We are removing the barriers so that all that God is in all the goblins to accomplish in our life is free to get thoughts so now that God 's grace in his mercy and his word are coming to us and we are accepting of it. We are one happy camper. But now we've got to growl in our knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ is why we come to Sunday school and church and read the Scriptures and pray we've got to grow in our understanding of God. So if we grow in our understanding of God. We not only has a mental of artifact, so we are changed and in thought, word, indeed that we are change from the inside out, so, God changes us by his Spirit and and we are in this continual state of growth and when does it stop and never stopped. Doesn't matter how old we are, how long we've been a Christian. We're still more frosted roll it to develop and whenever we stop the growth then we start is aware of erecting barriers. Once again we stop under the new putting barriers are becoming. I don't know why God does this and God does that, then and now it's all right. Questions, but it's not. It's not all right. Erect barrier so God 's grace in his mercy, Celine David with David here today. When we got here. We were never stop instead of reading all of the first Samuel to get started. Will it is rated as we go through the second set in two thousand three, Oxford University press, develop a line of books examining the seven deadly sins, page seventy. Remember those they were the never bestseller for a number of years, but they started in Proverbs six sixteen to nineteen and it was in all the talk about the seven deadly sins and the whole idea was it was not only a matter of faith. It was a matter of society, so sometimes we look at this insane religious and its faith-based, not only about our faith and our relationship with God, but what God gives to us not only affects honest in our religious and faith, but everyone everyplace else in our society. And that's why I think that our society is so against religion because religion is a will and I is not just religion. It's a relationship which at that way. Religion is the denominational understanding and have no codes and stop the relationship with Jesus Christ is a forgiveness of sins, and then we live that will you have been our society and our society doesn't want to conscience by society. The one account, because if we have a conscience that means there's someone greater than us. God 's word is greater than I and so whenever we apply God 's word to our life into our society, then it has an effect upon what we say into what we believe should take place in our society and in our government tyranny and you know everything and everything else around us because it affects every aspect of our lives, but so that's why many people get all want to have anything to do with root with religion or faith based in our society because then we can create laws and things solely on the understanding that we are the height and weight was good as it gets. And nobody is nothing is greater than us. As you can't prove that there is God. You can't can't disprove God, but felt whenever this book came out seven deadly sins it. It was it was not received very well because it was inferring that he the seven deadly sins were something that would destroy a society and the people were looking at insane left faith, and that's religion that should have a license. I and so they trying to get way Billy Graham and nine two thousand six says that all see much improvement in man's heart the whole thing is in man's heart 's desires. His greed has lost his pride, his ego. All of these things meshed together bring about sometimes. Sometimes a world war and sometimes a small war how more is going on everywhere, even in families is a personal thing with each of us so it has to affect the heart. It has affected our relationship with people. Our relationship with God. So whenever we start looking than Attar, the Scriptures and we start seeing our religious heroes, we would we recognize that the Bible doesn't hide it doesn't idealize these individuals, nor does it idolize them. It shows their strengths and weaknesses, and in David's life has five chapters before our lesson today. This huge blessing is pronounced upon him and upon his family and because these is this really what wonderful guy and he's doing everything right, but what happened was David Damon became complacent, David Khanna slacked off with CML in the lesson today. It says when, when it came time for the Kings to go to war and death. It always got a look at that render you mean like, dislike fall football practice coming up with it was it was war preparation and everybody goes than you noticed their war room is ready all not really. It was kind of like a United Nations not as bad, but it was a it was a time in which kings and no representatives update on the different countries and different provinces would come together and they would negotiate and you would negotiate from this position of strength, and you would negotiate your treaties that you have with people that you know where I can do this. You pay us this and when I thought about this and in all that kind of stopping to be denigrating with the war while this is what was going on in the and in the beginning of our lesson. Here's the one we read that you have a questions course lot were just getting started. Why would you have a question. I have any questions about regarding on so that the doctor uses the coolness of the pictures for winter okay, off to go on. There is terrible sins except error on second Samuel chapter eleven and Mrs. three one two for now, I'll bring one in because lesson starts with two and it came to pass after the year was expired at the time when things go forth to battle the Davidson, Joe Lavin. His sermons with him, and all Israel and they destroy the children of Ammon and his siege, Ray Rob about whatever, but David Terry still in Jerusalem is to so it's as if the diplomatic season by verse one it's a diplomatic season in which the Kingsville war, or they may go through code to sign her treaties and renew their treaties that they have with neighboring countries. But instead of David going to end anything about it is the most influence that a treaty him him him one down and one of these meetings, modification, while David thinks that he and I got to the point where static complacence and in our and he sends his representatives. It's as good as sending him so therefore he's not going to make the trip this year because the sender 's representatives and they represent him and the nation and they speak for him solve that one of the exile he intends that have fulfilling his past as a cane. He now decides often somebody else in need of. We see him waking from a nap, so it's kind of like the afternoon nap than he is getting up from and no plot, though what's going on verse two David's getting up from the and as he walks around the top of the palace roof down the Afghanistan in and have pitched roofs like we do. They are all flat generally flat surface through and this guy like another room on top of the roof. You would know what they're especially in the evening. Or maybe early morning and you would walk in the open era when you're you're you're like me have patios and things intervened their patio. They build up the welcome top of the roof and that's really what sets does not uncommon for someone to be walking on the roof walking on the unit on the patio and sell Damon is up walking on the honest palace roof than he he looks off when David's place and person who saw woman watching herself in the woman was very beautiful to look upon. So David is in the wrong place. You should vending duties as king, but he allows that to go by the wayside and so it opens up an opportunity for him to just be wandering around this was aware the palace, and he sees a beautiful woman and first three-game ascendant inquired after the woman and one said, is not this nice enough, the daughter even the wife of Uriah the kids so people know who this woman is. And she's she's a woman of societies where she is well known her families while no, so it isn't like she's some street woman. She has no woman of society, and she is one of his illness arise. Why now doesn't say that he's one of his soldiers, generals, wives, it just says it is Uriah some David sends a messenger to find out about her. Find out more about her and David sent a messenger and trucker and she came up to him and he lay with her, for she was purified from her uncleanness, and she returned to the house so David okay, this is who she is, so that doesn't deter gaming in so he has an opportunity to think about it, okay. Who is this woman they go and find out the back and tell them it's a what is David, do you send out messages no-brainer to me. Now, and in this timeframe, you know, if not like our Western culture is what you know, David King and often people have the connotation that when you're taking your subject to your okay their yours to do with as you please. There your subject, you rule. Now that may have been the connotation that time, and since I think that it was not connotation for David was not God 's rules, the Damon was to be limited by an Damon was breaking God 's commands whenever he first looked on her and desired her in second and when he found out that she was married and he still broke the commands of his own. He sent for hard matter, and they had sex together in an and the woman conceived, diversify and sent and told Damon and said, I am with child, so now the thought that bought the fly swat on the plot smile on the plot thickens a so David realizes all I've been found out because her husband is not been around these monopoly battle the case all David and in Mrs. this is a trial like whether things that some of David's armies were war okay and when it came time negotiating a peace treaty for a hell like North and South Korea, and all were going to militarize already set up these boundaries and places, and ending the war in saving some mistruths. David stayed back in the palace. Any send somebody else out there to negotiate the treaty is like now they mentioned that out there. He's gay. He showed been there and it was his duty to a lot negotiate peace treaties. So David began to become complacent and what he was supposed to do as a team who he was, as an individual. So we see the same thing happening it is now happening in our own lives and we become complacent. Whenever we discuss while a philosopher on whatever will be will be in on the Novell about our down can change anything and everything and this and that this taken that so they became complacent, saw a beautiful woman had sex with her. Now she has a child is pregnant and David decides he so he sends in this as in versus six through thirteen in seconds and eleven, we don't have those in our text, but then it sends for her husband. While we can fix this. What makes this mistake will save our husband. Her husband will come back from the battlefield, Novell and enliven his wife and now on LOL and then then nobody will know that is not his baby because he and Ali came home from the battlefield. Of course, that would be a natural thing for a soldier to have sexual relations with his wife, Sony sends freeride to come home and so there. Here's a here again is an opportunity for David to fess up. Okay okay your I been off fighting and I've been indiscreet. I broken God 's laws. You know David could have come fleet and with the situation and maybe so. But you're right down is a Gentile. But he loves God, any any laws, David and he is always a soldier and he wants to immediately go back to the battle lines, and he will a lot allow himself the privilege of sleeping with his wife while his soldiers are out in the battlefield. So anyway found in in the palace staff is mostly bad while you know that lack of work. So what is there to do well. Plan B at your what you stay another night. They both have some sense of why and so David wined and dined him and hoping that you don't get him drunk enough. Maybe Obama 's life and that plane crashes, Kaiser Ryan doesn't get drunk about the role he sleeps on the ground outside the palace and so now what if they regarded it well is where is where we see when I was when you're your reading over this essay you write what is your wife means innocent guy and all this stuff and he has nothing to do with what's going on circumstances outside of his control are at work here and it's like this poor guy in these next verses here and again to pass in the morning. David wrote a letter to Joe Apuleius is it always that David's no general David's commander-in-chief and this is his general over the forces in that region. He said the letter any set by the head of Uriah, so he writes a letter to Joab had to have Uriah go to the fiancé Ryan and his group of men rated the heat of battle at them. The most play free survival from an and O didn't feel there invalid. Anyone exactly given you your ride have to take into a Latin soldier Uriah Therrien 's old best sentence flagella is a right sin separates and I am thinking of this. How many innocent people are hurt by our own same SSL looks out for number one. And how many innocent people are affected by our sense things that we do the break God 's command into hurting other people. And if we were held accountable to the point that we would be punished for all the people we heard the innocent people that were hurt by our activities in our sins, so the grace of God has to work this out in each individual 's life. How may times have we been hurt by the sins of other people. The innocent victim of other people 's mistakes. We'll see if we start looking at that and start running the gamut with it. Every one of us have a reason to accuse and every one is at everyone. After another people have a reason to accuse us. So when does it stop murder where the start when does it stop at whatever you're reading this, go back to possibly my mind that help your eye is this poor sap who is yell. Maybe you think this way. They just force after the parliament just work get moved around so they get sacrifice for the greater good of somebody else we may think that you would think that way but if you know the character of God. All the plan of God. And you know the purpose of God. You know that that's not true. That's a very humanistic approach to a totally misunderstanding of what life is about, but that in your Ryan meaning in being a type of Christ in the sense that he was following the will of the father, even to the point of that, so, following the will of God through a point where which we live, you see whether we live or whether we die, we belong to God and life is greater now, if life is over. When you're iodized that if the loss of life is not over when the person dies. Life is just beginning. So we see that we are part of a greater plan and a greater process and then there are people who have been hurt by us and by our sins of what we spoke with them, and what was supposed to do with our hurts whenever we are heard by other people 's sins. We have to have film. We have to forgive and let it go and you know and you want talk about it what is the new manholes. Not this week but in a couple weeks the guy forgives the murderer. The guy who husband forgives the murder of his wife. The dance a lot of things going on in this. This whole life. They were involved in some of the things we encounter an something we never encountered hopefully never will. But we see going on here with David and how that God doesn't hide these things from us. Moriarty was also the day was a man after God 's own heart scale. Southwest David has weaknesses, and David has easy. He's a person and that he can still fall you can still falter and fail and because we falter and fail that means it doesn't mean that we're wiped out and washed out. It just means that we, we've allowed ourselves to leave God or to become complacent and what were doing lots of it. It's a thought-provoking story right one with a lot of Scott Scott Moore did you solely wrote his letter. Let your Ryan the forefront of the hottest battle and retire from him. What you do it. If you set your mind is group to the hottest battle and then you retrieve adult talent David wrote this and what is wisely writing this cover-up is sent whenever we have to cover something up. Now that it's going. It works when we find ourselves to place where we were covering something up. We need to stop okay bite the bullet here responsibility starts here stops here whatever until the buck stops here when it gets that point we make the choice. Make the right decision for the right reason, get back on the right track. Do the right thing because it was AWOL. This is not happen that the map one giant. We know from experience our own lives and the lives of others if we don't stop when we know what we like no one. It will get worse. So David has Uriah killed in the middle of the city went out and fought with Joab, and there fell some of the people of the servants of David in writing it died also. So did allow other innocent man to die about it, it had arrived fielding as he arrives guys are fighting with them, kill, so now there's more than just one individual of the number of individuals by to prevent the scandal from writing the headlines. So when the right wife of Uriah heard that her husband had was that she wanted for her husband, and when the time of morning with past David sent and fetched her to his house and she became his wife and their son so it seems like everything is okay in fact even got a set of the deal that was supposedly the sign of the blessing of God. But the thing that Damon had done displeased the Lord. You can't hide your motives in your actions from God and the Lord sent Nathan under the nations, the prophet edited MSN and then there are two men in one city. And the poor. The rich man had exceedingly many flocks and herds, but the poor man had nothing, save one little you land small land which you have brought a box and nourished up in a group that grew up together with him and with his children. It did eat in his own help me. It is each of his only and drank of his own cup and laid his bosom, and was other men as a daughter. I got the family pet and all the kids love it eat you out there it is. This isn't just a sheet that says this is a this is all lobbed pass is all repossession ever you are in it just like part of family down. We should understand that we must affect their part of family gaming who needs a patented the wheel. But anyhow, entertain a traveler info and to the rich man, and he spake spared to take his own flock in his own herd to dress for the wayfaring man that was, to him, but he took the four grand slam addresses for the man with confidential and is an and Nathan gets in the story. Okay, David yours overhears a rich man got lots of sheet is a poor man who has a pet, Joey God, the rich man's friend times and he says low I got to fix this dialect, but I'm not thinking that in mind he has overtaken the poor man's pet and feels it and gives it to the that the friend who showed up for this travel and one half verse five David's anger Damon was greatly any sense of Nathan will you have done this thing, it shall surely die~ thirty feet in the lesson and he shall restore the lamb fourfold, because he did this thing, and because we had no pity. No, this is when Nathan shows his character Nathan said to Damon you're the man now Damon had the authority to kill me. Please take inter alia, one would think this is what makes different name David different in so many ways is even though David got lost in his kingly miss. He still had an area of his life. Part of his life that was very sensitive to God and to the needs of his people, and when Nathan says in your the man thus saith the Lord God of Israel, then Nathan Govan tells him that what God had done for him. God anointed you king over Israel and delivered you out of the hand of Saul. They gave you the master 's house by massive wives under bosom, and gave me the house of Israel and of Judah, and that has been too little, I would moreover have given me such these impairment onto the such and such things. I mean, there was no answer what David could have gotten as a wherefore you despise the commandments of the Lord to do evil in his site. You despise what you know to do interviews right and you have children riding the sword has taken his wife to be your wife have slain him with the sword of the children of man Nathan. Since there any any punches here. It is totally late date out for his stand up for what he has done and then you know I'm any just, just like punch to bring it out. Now, therefore, so there's consequences to our site. Now, therefore, the sword shall never depart from White House, because thou hast despised me and has taken the wife of deriving a type to be that way, you despise what I told you and you despise everything I've given you because of your actions, thus saith the Lord. Behold, I will raise up evil against the bottom line own house. What you Don is so devastated it will cause people to lose their respect for you, even in your own house. I will take. I wisely, four nine nine. Give them before then. I think in the month of the neighbor and shall live with my wives inside of the sun, for thou didst it secretly, but I will do this thing before all Israel before the sun meaning you where you despise me in secret, but I'm going to reprimand you publicly because David represented down this this is Damon represented God, represented the nation of Israel. He represented at all. So is bigger than life analysis, like in our society. If you are a star, you give up your right to any privacy. Why could you the front page, I think in pictures, and you've got this new got that you have no individual rights, you know, you sacrifice that for the public 's consumption while vitamin represents God not only for the nation of Israel with all the surrounding nations, and what does it mean to the surrounding nations, to have some of his army of your fetid, when he withdrew his hand until so this was, this was more than just some little secret. I said David had done it was enacted with Damon had had premeditated me and continuously built upon his sin, and upon his lies and to discredit his relationship with God, and to discredit God to the nation of Israel and to the surrounding nations, so that's why the bit move the consequences of so great, then the sentence, and Nathan, I have sinned against the Lord name David Harkness revealed. I've sinned against God, the Lord has also put my sin. The Lord has also put nice in the summer. The so David could have been sentenced to death at that moment, my God, you have seen, and it's over and you're done you no longer. My liking. Represent to lead Israel, God 's grace was greater than that and Nathan departed this house of the Lord struck the child. His wife bare unto David, was very sick and Damon fasted and prayed for this child per week, that would not die again. This was a symbol of David Sandin, David, relying upon the mercy of God, and forgiveness of God, and find where the child eventually dies and Damon declares that the now is dead. Wherefore so why fast can I bring him back. I shall go to him, but you shall not return to me, David arises and goes on with his life because he was he was dependent upon the mercy of God, as if God would somehow relent from taking from the child dying and heal the child. The story ends on a note of hope. David comforts his wife crash event again taking responsibility for his actions. God gives them an assignment and the sun that David has the best Siva is along the next king of Israel. Some spice for what you think about and you and you put it within the context of our lives, how much of our sins have hurt other people only on many sins of other people have heard us what we do with them. We forgive them and let them know and how we deal with heartfelt faults of our failures is that we let them go on. Allow God to make all things work together for good, God can take the worst of circumstances and turned around the best of situations, and even here your rise. Why becomes the mother of Solomon, who is the next king of Israel, who is in the lineage of Jesus Christ, God has a way of taking our failures turning them around his good, but we've got to remove the barrier and not become complacent in real Iraq. Then again, but remove the barrier that stands between God and us by forgiveness. We ask God to forgive us our sins. Jesus is the one who removes a barrier. Our forgiveness are asking for forgiveness is the action by which we remove what we have a record by God 's grace and mercy by God 's event facts. The parliament students. There's so much we could do with this story, but in this situation with David that they get helpless your picture. They thought best. While the bay again. Life is life goes on forever. What happened, why did the baby die is was more than just the tallest legislature rhyolite is arrived widest all his other soldiers, the why do other people sin where her. Why do you know don't know why right you know the guy has a way of just pulling things together and wipers. Now God is the giver of life and we don't understand doesn't make sense in our concept, but in in the overall picture of life that has an overall picture of Israel and in and in Israel. All these things, God operated as dealt with Israel as a designation. Okay, so the things that happen to them after the resignation things that happened was that blesses individuals to transition from the national concept to an individual concept, the New Testament edited again. That's why there's so much more to this than just presented, but it is challenging it is it is hard to simply say why and how does the baby yours does this just arrived. Now, it isn't just these are individuals. These are people and things, good things happen to good people bad things happen to good people and we have to trust God that he is in charge. God is the giver of life and God receives life is forever. Sometimes it's just with us a short time. That is with God forever While this morning as we said were talking about David's sin, his sins in his repentance.
