Hosea 4:1-19
1) Hear the word of Yahweh, you children of Israel; for Yahweh has a controversy with the inhabitants of the land, because there is no truth, nor goodness, nor knowledge of God in the land.
2) There is nothing but swearing and breaking faith, and killing, and stealing, and committing adultery; they break out, and blood touches blood.
3) Therefore shall the land mourn, and everyone who dwells therein shall languish, with the animals of the field and the birds of the sky; yes, the fish of the sea also shall be taken away.
4) Yet let no man strive, neither let any man reprove; for your people are as those who strive with the priest.
5) You shall stumble in the day, and the prophet also shall stumble with you in the night; and I will destroy your mother.
6) My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge: because you have rejected knowledge, I will also reject you, that you shall be no priest to me: seeing you have forgotten the law of your God, I also will forget your children.
7) As they were multiplied, so they sinned against me: I will change their glory into shame.
8) They feed on the sin of my people, and set their heart on their iniquity.
9) It shall be, like people, like priest; and I will punish them for their ways, and will requite them their doings.
10) They shall eat, and not have enough; they shall play the prostitute, and shall not increase; because they have left off taking heed to Yahweh.
11) Prostitution and wine and new wine take away the understanding.
12) My people ask counsel at their stock, and their staff declares to them; for the spirit of prostitution has caused them to err, and they have played the prostitute, [departing] from under their God.
13) They sacrifice on the tops of the mountains, and burn incense on the hills, under oaks and poplars and terebinths, because the shadow of it is good: therefore your daughters play the prostitute, and your brides commit adultery.
14) I will not punish your daughters when they play the prostitute, nor your brides when they commit adultery; for [the men] themselves go apart with prostitutes, and they sacrifice with the prostitutes; and the people that does not understand shall be overthrown.
15) Though you, Israel, play the prostitute, yet don‘t let Judah offend; and don‘t you come to Gilgal, neither go up to Beth-aven, nor swear, As Yahweh lives.
16) For Israel has behaved himself stubbornly, like a stubborn heifer: now will Yahweh feed them as a lamb in a large place.
17) Ephraim is joined to idols; let him alone.
18) Their drink is become sour; they play the prostitute continually; her rulers dearly love shame.
19) The wind has wrapped her up in its wings; and they shall be put to shame because of their sacrifices.
Micah 3:1-12
1) I said, Please hear, you heads of Jacob, and rulers of the house of Israel: is it not for you to know justice?
2) you who hate the good, and love the evil; who pluck off their skin from off them, and their flesh from off their bones;
3) who also eat the flesh of my people, and flay their skin from off them, and break their bones, and chop them in pieces, as for the pot, and as flesh within the caldron.
4) Then shall they cry to Yahweh, but he will not answer them; yes, he will hide his face from them at that time, according as they have worked evil in their doings.
5) Thus says Yahweh concerning the prophets who make my people to err; who bite with their teeth, and cry, Peace; and whoever doesn‘t put into their mouths, they even prepare war against him:
6) Therefore it shall be night to you, that you shall have no vision; and it shall be dark to you, that you shall not divine; and the sun shall go down on the prophets, and the day shall be black over them.
7) The seers shall be put to shame, and the diviners confounded; yes, they shall all cover their lips; for there is no answer of God.
8) But as for me, I am full of power by the Spirit of Yahweh, and of judgment, and of might, to declare to Jacob his disobedience, and to Israel his sin.
9) Please hear this you heads of the house of Jacob, and rulers of the house of Israel, who abhor justice, and pervert all equity.
10) They build up Zion with blood, and Jerusalem with iniquity.
11) The heads of it judge for reward, and the priests of it teach for hire, and the prophets of it divine for money: yet they lean on Yahweh, and say, Is not Yahweh in the midst of us? no evil shall come on us.
12) Therefore shall Zion for your sake be plowed as a field, and Jerusalem shall become heaps, and the mountain of the house as the high places of a forest.
Zephaniah 3:1-20
1) Woe to her who is rebellious and polluted, the oppressing city!
2) She didn‘t obey the voice. She didn‘t receive correction. She didn‘t trust in Yahweh. She didn‘t draw near to her God.
3) Her princes in the midst of her are roaring lions. Her judges are evening wolves. They leave nothing until the next day.
4) Her prophets are arrogant and treacherous people. Her priests have profaned the sanctuary. They have done violence to the law.
5) Yahweh, in the midst of her, is righteous. He will do no wrong. Every morning he brings his justice to light. He doesn‘t fail, but the unjust know no shame.
6) I have cut off nations. Their battlements are desolate. I have made their streets waste, so that no one passes by. Their cities are destroyed, so that there is no man, so that there is no inhabitant.
7) I said, "Just fear me. Receive correction, so that her dwelling won‘t be cut off, according to all that I have appointed concerning her." But they rose early and corrupted all their doings.
8) "Therefore wait for me," says Yahweh, "until the day that I rise up to the prey, for my determination is to gather the nations, that I may assemble the kingdoms, to pour on them my indignation, even all my fierce anger, for all the earth will be devoured with the fire of my jealousy.
9) For then I will purify the lips of the peoples, that they may all call on the name of Yahweh, to serve him shoulder to shoulder.
10) From beyond the rivers of Cush, my worshipers, even the daughter of my dispersed people, will bring my offering.
11) In that day you will not be put to shame for all your doings, in which you have transgressed against me; for then I will take away out of the midst of you your proudly exulting ones, and you will no more be haughty in my holy mountain.
12) But I will leave in the midst of you an afflicted and poor people, and they will take refuge in the name of Yahweh.
13) The remnant of Israel will not do iniquity, nor speak lies, neither will a deceitful tongue be found in their mouth, for they will feed and lie down, and no one will make them afraid."
14) Sing, daughter of Zion! Shout, Israel! Be glad and rejoice with all your heart, daughter of Jerusalem.
15) Yahweh has taken away your judgments. He has thrown out your enemy. The King of Israel, Yahweh, is in the midst of you. You will not be afraid of evil any more.
16) In that day, it will be said to Jerusalem, "Don‘t be afraid, Zion. Don‘t let your hands be slack."
17) Yahweh, your God, is in the midst of you, a mighty one who will save. He will rejoice over you with joy. He will rest in his love. He will rejoice over you with singing.
18) Those who are sad for the appointed feasts, I will remove from you. They are a burden and a reproach to you.
19) Behold, at that time I will deal with all those who afflict you, and I will save those who are lame, and gather those who were driven away. I will give them praise and honor, whose shame has been in all the earth.
20) At that time will I bring you in, and at that time will I gather you; for I will give you honor and praise among all the peoples of the earth, when I bring back your captivity before your eyes, says Yahweh.
Zechariah 7:1-14
1) It happened in the fourth year of king Darius, that the word of Yahweh came to Zechariah in the fourth [day] of the ninth month, even in Chislev.
2) Now [they of] Bethel had sent Sharezer and Regem-melech, and their men, to entreat the favor of Yahweh,
3) [and] to speak to the priests of the house of Yahweh of Hosts, and to the prophets, saying, Should I weep in the fifth month, separating myself, as I have done these so many years?
4) Then came the word of Yahweh of Hosts to me, saying,
5) Speak to all the people of the land, and to the priests, saying, When you fasted and mourned in the fifth and in the seventh [month], even these seventy years, did you at all fast to me, even to me?
6) When you eat, and when you drink, do not you eat for yourselves, and drink for yourselves?
7) [Should you] not [hear] the words which Yahweh cried by the former prophets, when Jerusalem was inhabited and in prosperity, and the cities of it round about her, and the South and the lowland were inhabited?
8) The word of Yahweh came to Zechariah, saying,
9) Thus has Yahweh of Hosts spoken, saying, Execute true judgment, and show kindness and compassion every man to his brother;
10) and don‘t oppress the widow, nor the fatherless, the sojourner, nor the poor; and let none of you devise evil against his brother in your heart.
11) But they refused to listen, and pulled away the shoulder, and stopped their ears, that they might not hear.
12) Yes, they made their hearts as an adamant stone, lest they should hear the law, and the words which Yahweh of Hosts had sent by his Spirit by the former prophets: therefore there came great wrath from Yahweh of Hosts.
13) It is come to pass that, as he cried, and they would not hear, so they shall cry, and I will not hear, said Yahweh of Hosts;
14) but I will scatter them with a whirlwind among all the nations which they have not known. Thus the land was desolate after them, so that no man passed through nor returned: for they laid the pleasant land desolate.
