Exodus 17:1-7
1) All the congregation of the children of Israel journeyed from the wilderness of Sin, by their journeys, according to Yahweh‘s commandment, and encamped in Rephidim; but there was no water for the people to drink.
2) Therefore the people quarreled with Moses, and said, "Give us water to drink." Moses said to them, "Why do you quarrel with me? Why do you test Yahweh?"
3) The people were thirsty for water there; and the people murmured against Moses, and said, "Why have you brought us up out of Egypt, to kill us, our children, and our livestock with thirst?"
4) Moses cried to Yahweh, saying, "What shall I do with these people? They are almost ready to stone me."
5) Yahweh said to Moses, "Walk on before the people, and take the elders of Israel with you, and take the rod in your hand with which you struck the Nile, and go.
6) Behold, I will stand before you there on the rock in Horeb. You shall strike the rock, and water will come out of it, that the people may drink." Moses did so in the sight of the elders of Israel.
7) He called the name of the place Massah, and Meribah, because the children of Israel quarreled, and because they tested Yahweh, saying, "Is Yahweh among us, or not?"
Exodus 32:4-6
4) He received what they handed him, and fashioned it with an engraving tool, and made it a molten calf; and they said, "These are your gods, Israel, which brought you up out of the land of Egypt."
5) When Aaron saw this, he built an altar before it; and Aaron made a proclamation, and said, "Tomorrow shall be a feast to Yahweh."
6) They rose up early on the next day, and offered burnt offerings, and brought peace-offerings; and the people sat down to eat and to drink, and rose up to play.
Numbers 25:1-4
1) Israel abode in Shittim; and the people began to play the prostitute with the daughters of Moab:
2) for they called the people to the sacrifices of their gods; and the people ate, and bowed down to their gods.
3) Israel joined himself to Baal-peor: and the anger of Yahweh was kindled against Israel.
4) Yahweh said to Moses, Take all the chiefs of the people, and hang them up to Yahweh before the sun, that the fierce anger of Yahweh may turn away from Israel.
1 Corinthians 10:1-11
1) Now I would not have you ignorant, brothers, that our fathers were all under the cloud, and all passed through the sea;
2) and were all baptized to Moses in the cloud and in the sea;
3) and all ate the same spiritual food;
4) and all drank the same spiritual drink. For they drank of a spiritual rock that followed them, and the rock was Christ.
5) However with most of them, God was not well pleased, for they were overthrown in the wilderness.
6) Now these things were our examples, to the intent we should not lust after evil things, as they also lusted.
7) Neither be idolaters, as some of them were. As it is written, "The people sat down to eat and drink, and rose up to play."
8) Neither let us commit sexual immorality, as some of them committed, and in one day twenty-three thousand fell.
9) Neither let us test the Lord, as some of them tested, and perished by the serpents.
10) Neither grumble, as some of them also grumbled, and perished by the destroyer.
11) Now all these things happened to them by way of example, and they were written for our admonition, on whom the ends of the ages have come.
