Philippians 2:1-11
1) If there is therefore any exhortation in Christ, if any consolation of love, if any fellowship of the Spirit, if any tender mercies and compassion,
2) make my joy full, that you be of the same mind, having the same love, being of one accord, of one mind;
3) doing nothing through rivalry or through conceit, but in humility, each counting others better than himself;
4) each of you not just looking to his own things, but each of you also to the things of others.
5) Have this in your mind, which was also in Christ Jesus,
6) who, existing in the form of God, didn‘t consider it robbery to be equal with God,
7) but emptied himself, taking the form of a servant, being made in the likeness of men.
8) Being found in human form, he humbled himself, becoming obedient to death, yes, the death of the cross.
9) Therefore God also highly exalted him, and gave to him the name which is above every name;
10) that at the name of Jesus every knee would bow, of those in heaven, those on earth, and those under the earth,
11) and that every tongue would confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God, the Father.
Matthew 25:31-40
31) "But when the Son of Man comes in his glory, and all the holy angels with him, then will he sit on the throne of his glory.
32) Before him all the nations will be gathered, and he will separate them one from another, as the shepherd separates the sheep from the goats.
33) He will set the sheep on his right hand, but the goats on the left.
34) Then the King will tell them on his right hand, ‘Come, blessed of my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world;
35) for I was hungry, and you gave me food to eat; I was thirsty, and you gave me drink; I was a stranger, and you took me in;
36) naked, and you clothed me; I was sick, and you visited me; I was in prison, and you came to me.‘
37) Then the righteous will answer him, saying, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry, and feed you; or thirsty, and give you a drink?
38) When did we see you as a stranger, and take you in; or naked, and clothe you?
39) When did we see you sick, or in prison, and come to you?‘
40) The King will answer them, ‘Most assuredly I tell you, inasmuch as you did it to one of the least of these my brothers, you did it to me.‘

This is a machine transcript of the sermon. It won't be completely accurate of what's said in the sermon.
Melinda is the one you're looking one word. Okay, I guess it is likely the sermon with the binoculars. No legal instep so on. You can see anything in and in our lives that we've got to open our eyes and take the lens cap off to see what God is doing what they were continuing our message on humility and I've been learning a lot about this this little word in this the definition that we given and also how that it is presented to us in Scripture, and it is kind of May and all aware that has fallen on hard times that it is a word that is not use very often. And if we look at our society will look at our sports figures, very few of them that are the ones who are in front page, we would consider them anything but humble hope we would consider it out. We would think that the more aggressive than arrogance in the more brash, you are there though, the better you are. You know those types of things, but in the Scriptures, it doesn't present us with that idea of being successful are being in favor with God. If it speaks to us about being humble and humility or humble says not thinking you are better than other people, and the other definition is more disciplined strength and other center, discipline, strength, and other centered power restriction were other centered power about whatever we are thinking of humility. We have many concepts about it in many most of our concepts are false. They're wrong. Humility is not becoming a doormat so that everybody wants to be in much defeat on you not being humble. Being humble. I know I'm I'm humble and proud of it is lost it, so it isn't. It's a difficult word to really translate into our into our lives because whenever we think were hobbled and we lost, and whenever we think about being humble. We think of it in the context them basically being a doormat, and in all of baseball to those extremes are completely out of place. So what other thoughts is recognizing what work buddy Al's but the idea. How does that translate into service. How does that translate into becoming or doing and how does it how to translate into being stall wart and how does that translate into the unfolding in front of God. How is it working to the idea that all things are possible to him who believes no say over this mountain it be moved and it will move how to being humble fit into those aggressive, powerful words, while hopefully we'll find out solo. Philippians chapter choose where we started last week and begin a reducing versus recess started with, but I won't speak about them to indefinitely, Chapter two verse one through four. If you gotten this is a Paul, writing churches apply and this section is Paulus talking to the church of Philippi about how that Jesus took on the status of the slaves think Jesus God kangaroo took on the status of the slave if you've got anything this way, writes to the Philippians. If you run anything at all out of following Christ and his love is made any difference in your life, if being in a calm community of the spirit means anything to you. If you have a heart if you care them to you favor agree with each other, not each other and spirited friends and I would think of this in the context of agreeing is not met, not a being that everybody think the same thoughts. No one else nobodies on on on those not chance, Rob, I think the same thoughts, but is saying here that we agree it will in a spirit of love and that this lobbyist accepting one another and accepting each others views and impositions and things like that in the spirit of love, so that we can find is aware of the direction or what is the wisdom of the application that were all talking about and so as we look at this up, Hollis, telling the church of Philippi, go hang people need to agree him into agreeing in this deep spirit of friends and I I like. I know that in the winter would start the church service and things. Okay, let's get going here. Enough food was started ten o'clock and will happen is sometimes will will will will be on our way. Get ready for church. Well, the rumbling started and will probably not be about ten after soil really have to hurry though. Then we get them while you know that Royal started ten effigies about twenty after indexing of people and are not startled than thirty quarter eleven no next thing you know, were starting and finishing at twelve amen. Okay, so please, but whenever we look at this is that this deep spirit of friends. We look at this and and we see how that is the spirit of friendship exists and that's what you like to have that happened at the beginning of the service, and being able to talk the people 's dislike would like to get together more often talk more often. Well he did on Sunday morning or late in the caller meets a major and weak, but this do spirit of friendship and then Paul tells them after you have distilled spirit of friendship. He says don't push your way to the front don't push your way to the front dial sweet talk your way to the top. Put yourself aside and help others get ahead help others get ahead. The money on John Maxwell and his son, personal growth, development and things like that. He has us holes whole series on how that if you want to get or you want to know if you want to rise to the top in your profession, help other people get where they want to be. If you help other people get where they want to be healing up being at the top is right from this type of positioning that we're looking at our life, recognizing that in giving were not losing that in giving where not losing because we are trusting God that he is going to know the resources of God are not depleted, because we gives them so using the resources of God is the benefit that the costs were allowing God to flow through us to his divine provision as we continue to meet the needs of others. Now it's a knowledge and it's within reason of his spirit and reason up of what the God what God is speaking to us is not like okay sell everything you got go into debt barbecue can get to the church involved rock now. So we got to say instead of all, he tells us that we are responsible to give the leaders responsible to trust but yet from the spirit that God you don't only regard you have provided for me as a whole different is a whole different arena. There sounded. We've all known individuals who have done things for us and then after a short period of time they wanted back. You only their strings attached in other strings attached. I wasn't fully with you. We do this for you. Now you better do something for me and in the spirit of humility in the spirit of what Christ is teaching us is the spirit of giving as we once again because it is in our heart to give is that it is part of our character to get so put yourself aside and help others get ahead. Don't be assessed with getting into getting your own advantage. Forget yourself long enough to lend a helping hand. Okay, forget yourself long enough to lend a helping hand was over, we left off last week that we begin the verse five. Paul says it this way. Think of yourselves the way Christ Jesus thought of himself. No, wait a minute. Think of your self in the same way that Christ Jesus thought of himself. We are putting ourselves on a equal status with Jesus Christ. I think that's quite an elevated position, but twenty or so at the same place. Think of yourself the same way. Jesus thought of himself and he had equal status with God, but didn't think so much of himself that he had to cling to that advantage. So here's here's God himself was divested himself of all of the known powers of of God so that he could become human become like us and he is telling us that okay when you're approaching life alert you to approach this the same way Jesus approached, I want you to be on the same level as Jesus while Jesus walked on water, Jesus rose the dead. Jesus broke the five loaves and two fishes the Fed, five thousand and in your point is what we can't do that will one not escape. We diminish the value, the goddess placed in you think about the abilities you have in your mind, the heart to tell us everything they go. I mean all that you've got. We are, we are making. We are having an impact on everyone around us. We are having an impact on all the people around us. We are investing ourselves and other people because we do it because reading, talking to them, smiling at them while being welcoming them talking enjoyed. We talk to the people. We have a continuous impact upon people 's lives now and we think of them, and what that roadshow thing in bringing you bring in this stuff and up presented before the guy to guy looks at it, you will how much you pay for that whole library in our closet. It was my great grandfathers whatever and I think he bought it for three bucks get off as well. You're lucky. That's worth three hundred thousand death yells all of us are looking for all of our trash way to find the three hundred thousand dollar item I'm found the no uninvited run. We had a weirder cleaning. They were clean up the house and we took a chest of drawers up to the goodwill and the ill. We didn't know if they were taken or not then and afterwards Yoshi can back and she said all this is this is a good one and I'm thinking all was going on why we get away, and I was so good I want to give away the FBI is checking my fellow detail of the personnel was worth money and they took it for less than it was a fine young and then run is looking on Facebook course me on Facebook and one cc one of her students. I went to Goodwill paid fifteen dollars for Chester drawer and they were restoring it at their house and painting it the picture of her gone. She called him up. It was ours. We given up in the morning they pick it up in the afternoon while the next morning, but close enough so we look at this and what are we doing we gave something away someone else needed and in the transition, the people who were doing the handling. No were able to make some money on it to keep the handling process going. But if we don't take what we have and give it away no one else's ever been a benefit from no one is going to bed now. We think of tomorrow we're going the golf tournament and see benefit for not not conducting a test I want to set it a whole and major closest of the pen. You know it all down, watching golf balls fly down. Hope I don't get hit and dental measure the closest one post one when the price at my goal for the whole day tomorrow, but it's for and Smith, Mike Mike Smith and Mike and don't miss this one commercial new Mike Mike and Matt wait, how and was an individual who was a schoolteacher. Your whimper and Rhonda knew her and I only knew her just prior to her death and her husband because of her illness with ovarian cancer wanted to have a benefit to raise money for the ovarian cancer society and no helping a type of cancer. Those victims and I was thinking in the context. I did a prayer in the opening prayer and the been privileged to do that suffer number of years and I was figuring the context that here's an individual that most of the people in this room never know the sunny. I have never met and she knows she died a number of years ago, but the impact of her life is such that it motivates people to give so that people that she never knew will be helped in their life. Now in our lives. We don't know what that is, we don't know how you're going to help someone else. We don't know all the benefit BC the life that we live has an impact on other people know whether it is an immediate impact or a long time. In fact, it has an impact. We have an impact on people 's lives, and it doesn't come because were the most arrogant person on the planet, it becomes because we have learned how to serve people at their level of needs and that's what Jesus did. He came to meet people at their level of need and their level needs. Some of them have it around the middle of the elder optimist hillside in and nothing beats and Jesus. And when you got I got five loaves and two fishes will take care of that. That's enough and we look at this and thought over and over again emphasized to us what you have in your hands. What you have in your mind, your heart, your talents, what you have let me blessed with me blessed, not from the perspective of arrogance. Look at my talents, no. Look at what God has placed in our hearts that on somewhere. I have this in in the chapter nephew, chapter twenty five, verse thirty one two forty. This is Jesus speaking when he finally arrives blazing a beauty to speaking about the hi Jesus fire lies blazing imputing all of his angels within the Son of Man will take his place on his glorious throne denominations will be arranged before him, and he will sort the people out. God is the sort of sounds, much as she much as a shepherd sorts out sheep and goats and sheep on his right and the goats on his left. Then the King will say to those on his right answer you who have blessed you are blessed by my father is important answer. You are blessed by my father, and this is this is a context that these people don't know their blessed they don't consider themselves blessed. Take what's coming to you in the kingdom. It's been ready for you since the world 's foundation, and here's why I was hungry and you fed me, I was thirsty and gave me drink, when these are the blessed of God. The blessings of God are the people who fed the hungry, the blessings of God are the people who gave a drink to those who are thirsty, the blessings of God are the ones who saw the homeless and gave them a written I was shivering and you gave me clothes. I was sick and you stop the visits I was in prison and you came to me that no sheep are going to say master what you talking about it. We see you hungry and feed you and thirsty and give you drink when we see you sick or in prison, the King will say I tell you solemn truth whenever you did one of these things to someone overlooked or ignored, that was me you did it to me humility is, no one is beneath the gift that you possess no one is beneath the gift that you possess. Because you see right here that after you who are blessed of my father, the very little things of life that you that we share with other people on the blessings that God has given to us, and that no one is beneath your gift so humility is saying, Jesus, he is the creator of the universe. He spoke the world into existence. He breathed into man who made a living soul and his creation is not beneath him, being exactly like us and coming to be with us to walk with us to live with us to die for us and give us hope no one got himself and what are we doing were taking on the status of Jesus taking on the status of Jesus than I am capable because of Jesus, I am capable of getting not my greatest gifts to Luis the people while I am capable of giving my greatest gifts to the least of people and when I do that I will make a difference in their life, and I am defined gaining rewards in eternity, and when I see how the God is giving me these gifts and allowing me to share them with other people. There is no decline in my ability to get there is no framing of the reservoir that I'm coming from, because it is a divine reservoir that I'm drawing upon that God is using this to bless other people and in the process is blessing you. Tomorrow will no race, maybe hundreds run out and I mean hundreds of thousands, maybe less than one hundred thousand, and let your little raise all this money again and it will go to very cancer, but how that people are able to give them what they have, to make a difference for people that never met is feeling they are able to give for cause of an individual. They've never met and don't give to that cause to help people don't never meet. And yet, in the process make a difference in their life and the lives of others, but we do that all the time we do that every day of our life. Whenever we serve God, we allow God to move our hearts and lives we make a difference, busy we think of ourselves away. Jesus Christ thought of himself. He had the status he had equal status with God, but didn't think so much of himself that he had to cling to the advantages of that status. No matter what he did not cling to the idea. I'm God. Now he's hanging on the cross. One of the religious people say if you are really gone you come down if you are really the Messiah comes out will believe in you will will believe of you get off of the crossing them down here. Jesus said you don't take my life. I give it. I'm not here because I'm not stuck up your big all the nails. I'm here because I love you, and he was giving of himself to the least of people us if he, Jesus, when the time came, he set aside the privileges of deity and took on the status of the slave became became human. Having become human. He states human was an incredible humbling process. He didn't claim special privileges. Instead, he lived a selfless, obedient life and then died a selfless, obedient death and the worst kind of death at that the crucifixion. So you see we humble ourselves and you know how humility is not an activity humility is not an activity humility is an action humility is an action. It is part of a character is a character trait character some as a character flaw in what you just give too much. You're just too softhearted years disallow people who rule over your eyes. You just we give because there is part of the character traits in us that is divine. There is a character. There is part of our character that is divine, and that part is God, and that that is what that part of loss that wants to help people who can't help themselves. People who are the lowest people who are don't have the ability to care for themselves. Do the things for themselves that pardon us, that is moved towards them to help them that is God. I mentioned last week, Boolean thrasher orphanage in Egypt, and I available more reading on, I just remembered as a child I remember my mom talking about her rent, and all the things that that she did well in and I forget what year was in all. Anyhow, about nineteen ten. Somewhere in there. She was the young woman penniless felt that God wanted her to go to Africa gender working at an orphanage here in the United States, and she's not eighteen, nineteen years old, and she left here to go to a mission field in Africa, Egypt, and while she was there first day she was their first few days. She was there someone call for them to come to their house and it was a grandmother who was dying. Instead, please take care of my child, and that's restarted of orphanage and ten thousand people later fifty years of service, penniless, she started a foreign country to do something for people that were in the other side of your because she felt that God was calling her and in first Peter chapter two verse twelve, says live such good lives among the pagans that though they accuse you of wrong doing wrong, they may see your good deeds and glorify God on the day he visits us that people will see your good deeds. These people over there. They didn't want Christianity there is still don't want Christianity, but that orphanage is still going on. It is still part of the ministry is still part of how people minister and meet the needs of others, so humility and sounds like it's the wrong side of humility. Humility that is recognizing the value of the cup of cold war Hunter somebody else needs and give it to them. You recognize the need to recognize what you have and how that God can best use you to transfer that to their lives. That's what Jesus did and that compassion that we feel is a character trait of God is the character of God in us to us. It's just the trade 's disk is not our whole consuming life, but it's part of who we are and we never know how far that cup of cold water will go. We never know the distance that it will reach the person 's life, and perhaps it will be something that they remember right up into the day when Jesus returns and rewards you for human ascent so humility, not thinking you're better than other people, but it is a discipline, strength and other centered power other centered power to lift so as we touch people 's lives yell is likely make implemented by pick you up here. No, let me serve you. Let me serve you and give this to you, and we recognize that God is the one who's given us the gift to give, and he has promised that he will always continuously replenish father, thank you for the blessing this day and got we pray that we might see the humility that you to become like us, and that God became like us so that we could become like you and I thought that we could have the blessings and gifts in the power in and in the presence of June Lord working in our lives. Truly we are blessed. So let us not build bigger barns. The house are resources but let us see ways of investing them in the kingdom of God that he will continue to grow in raise if it did raise dividends for the rest of life. So whether it is in our cup of cold water where there is an feeding the hungry, whether it is in caring for the orphan, whatever the needy as it comes to our heart and our lives by our neighbor and our friends got quick in our hearts by your spirit to give the gift that you have given us in Jesus name we pray, the runtime. Amen. Unless youMelinda is the one you're looking one word. Okay, I guess it is likely the sermon with the binoculars. No legal instep so on. Amen. Unless you
